Facility in Focus: NWP Adelanto Plant
Facility in Focus Series:
An Inside Look at NWPX鈥檚 Manufacturing Plants
With 13 facilities in the U.S. and Mexico, NWPX Infrastructure plants are strategically located to support water infrastructure projects in communities across North America. Each facility offers a range of manufacturing capabilities and specialized services that provide engineered solutions for water transmission, wastewater, stormwater, and process system applications. Although geography and product specialty vary from plant to plant, our commitment to quality, service, and safety remains unwavering across locations. In our Facility in Focus series, we take a closer look at each of our plants, showcasing the unique manufacturing capabilities, technology, and skilled workforce that power the production of our innovative and durable water infrastructure products.
The Adelanto Plant
一品探花 Company | Water Transmission Systems
Located in Southern California鈥檚 High Desert, 一品探花 Company鈥檚 Adelanto Plant is ideally positioned to serve the region鈥檚 expansive water infrastructure needs. The landscape is dotted with iconic Joshua Trees, and the area鈥檚 open space and arid climate make it well-suited for year-round operations both indoors and outdoors. With access to major highways, the facility efficiently serves large municipalities across California and neighboring states.
一品探花 broke ground on the Adelanto facility in 1990. In the 35 years since, it has undergone three expansions and now encompasses 240,000 square feet of shop space across 120 acres. Its rural Mojave Desert location provides ample land availability and operational flexibility鈥攁dvantages that have supported the plant鈥檚 continued growth and large-scale production capabilities. Today, 12 departments perform 21 manufacturing processes to produce high-quality engineered steel water transmission systems.

Manufacturing Capabilities
Spiralweld Steel Pipe
Adelanto operates three spiralweld mills鈥攖wo Byard Mills and one Armco Mill鈥攖hat produce pipe in a wide range of sizes built to AWWA C200 standards. Spiralweld pipe is made in diameters from 12 to 156 inches, with wall thicknesses from 0.135 to 1.000 inches, and lengths of 20 to 60 feet.
Straight Seam Pipe
The facility also manufactures rolled and welded straight seam pipe in diameters from 36 to 168 inches, with wall thicknesses up to 4 inches and standard lengths of 10 to 60 feet.
Reline Pipe
Reline pipe is a specialized steel product used to rehabilitate existing water transmission lines. At Adelanto, reline pipe is produced in diameters ranging from 38 to 93 inches. Each piece is rolled with an unwelded longitudinal seam and fitted with steel tension straps that temporarily reduce the diameter for easy insertion into the host pipe being rehabilitated. Once in position, the straps are released, allowing the cylinder to expand and form a tight, structural fit within the existing line.
InfraShield庐 Geohazard Resistant Steel Pipe
Among Adelanto鈥檚 most innovative products is the patented InfraShield庐 Joint System, a geohazard-resistant steel pipe designed to improve resiliency and performance in differential settlement and seismic applications. The specialized manufacturing process adds a projection to the bell end of spiralweld pipe that absorbs deformation during geohazard events. The system was developed and rigorously tested at Adelanto using an in-house engineered hydraulic press known as 鈥渢he Gobbler.鈥 InfraShield庐 pipe is produced in diameters 24 to 156 inches and lengths up to 50 feet.

Coatings & Linings
To ensure long-term durability and corrosion resistance, Adelanto offers a comprehensive range of protective coating and lining solutions. Options include polyurethane, epoxy, tape, and cement mortar鈥攁ll factory-applied to AWWA standards to deliver consistent, high-quality protection.
Fittings
Adelanto鈥檚 fabrication department produces custom fittings of all sizes鈥攆rom small, intricate components to supersized pipe sections. Certified welders ensure each piece follows engineering drawings, maintaining precision and consistency through each step of the process.
One project that showcases the team鈥檚 large-scale fabrication capabilities is the Colgate Hydro Spool Replacement for Yuba County, CA. The plant fabricated a 168-inch penstock spool section for the Colgate Powerhouse鈥攑art of one of California鈥檚 largest hydroelectric facilities. Due to the extraordinary size of the flanges, which exceeded the capacity of typical suppliers, the Adelanto team collaborated with the Yuba County Water Agency to identify a specialized manufacturer. Together, they achieved a parallelism tolerance of just 0.005 inches鈥攐ne of the tightest tolerances ever produced at the Adelanto plant and among its most technically challenging fabrication projects to date.

Quality Assurance
Adelanto鈥檚 Quality Management System鈥攃ertified to ISO 9001:2015鈥攅nsures that every product meets project specifications and performs reliably in the field. Quality verification begins with engineering and material reviews, continues through procurement and production, and concludes with comprehensive in-process and final inspections. Our field service representatives also support customers during installation to ensure product quality and project success.
Testing is performed according to project specifications and includes hydrostatic and radioscopic nondestructive methods, as well as material methods including Charpy impact, tensile, cement mortar compression, and liquid-applied paint testing completed in the on-site lab.
Sustainability
NWPX is committed to environmental stewardship and operating responsibly within the communities where we operate. At Adelanto, that commitment has led to measurable emission reductions and improved energy efficiency throughout the facility.

The plant has been nominated for the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District鈥檚 2025 Air Aware and Exemplar Award in recognition of these efforts, which include:
- Modernizing off-road diesel forklifts
- Upgrading the OD blast unit to reduce grit consumption and particulate emissions
- Installing energy-efficient LED lighting
- Replacing compressors with variable-speed units
Adelanto last received the Exemplar Award in 2019 and has since reduced VOC emissions by approximately 50%.
Benchmark for Success
For two consecutive years, the Adelanto Plant has earned NWPX鈥檚 Benchmark Award, which recognizes the Company鈥檚 top-performing water transmission facilities based on key performance metrics including safety, lean initiatives, productivity, and quality. The team has maintained over two years with zero recordable incidents and no days away鈥攁n exceptional safety record for its 171 employees.
Through the Process Improvement Team program, employees continually identify ways to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency鈥攔esulting in considerable cost savings in 2024, and a trend that continues today. Operations Manager Dan Madden credits the plant鈥檚 achievements to its people and their shared pride in the work they do:
鈥淢any of our employees have been with us for years, bringing not only experience and dedication but also a strong sense of community. They consistently go above and beyond鈥攚elcoming guests with warmth, embracing every challenge with a can-do attitude, and supporting one another every step of the way. It鈥檚 this spirit of teamwork, resilience, and hospitality that makes our workplace exceptional.鈥
With its strong culture of safety, continuous improvement, and environmental responsibility, the Adelanto Plant stands as a benchmark of manufacturing excellence鈥攅mbodying NWPX鈥檚 mission to deliver reliable, high-performance water infrastructure solutions to communities across North America.
